Cubiertas de aguijones, su follaje es brillante y con aspecto de cuero arrugado, lo que da nombre a la especie ""rugosa"". Sus hojas están compuestas por 7 folíolos.
Floración: las flores, a veces solitarias y otras en pequeños ramilletes, varían del púrpura al carmín. Son simples, grandes, perfumadas y, en ocasiones, vuelven a florecer al final de la temporada. Produce grandes escaramujos rojos, redondos y aplanados, con una forma similar a pequeños tomates.
Variedades en casa Frey: se propaga por estolones, lo que ha permitido que esta variedad se disemine en distintos sectores del jardín de casa Frey.

Covered in thorns, its foliage is shiny with a wrinkled leather-like appearance, which gives the species the name “rugosa,” made up of 7 leaflets. The flowers, sometimes solitary and sometimes in small clusters, are purple to carmine, large, simple, and fragrant, sometimes repeating flowering at the end of the season.
It produces large, red, round, and flattened hips (in the shape of small tomatoes).
It propagates by runners, a characteristic that has led this variety to spread across many areas of the Frey estate garden.
